Key West Information:

Key West, a U.S. island city, is part of the Florida Keys archipelago. It's also Florida's southernmost point, lying roughly 90 miles north of Cuba. Famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses, it's a cruise-ship stop also accessible from the mainland via the Overseas Highway. It's known more for its coral reefs – destinations for diving and snorkeling – than for its beaches.

Naval Air Station Key West is a naval air station and military airport located on Boca Chica Key, four miles (6 km) east of the central business district of Key West, Florida, United States.

NAS Key West is a state-of-the-art training facility for air-to-air combat fighter aircraft of all military services, with favorable flying conditions year round and unparalleled aerial ranges that offer aircrew training within minutes after takeoff.  On a broader scale, NAS Key West's national security mission supports operational and readiness requirements for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard), Air National Guard and Army National Guard units, other federal agencies, and allied military forces.

The air station is also host to several tenant commands, including Fighter Squadron Composite 111 (VFC-111), Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-106) Detachment Key West, the U.S. Army Special Forces Underwater Operations School and Headquarters, Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF South).

Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) Information:

MUTC, a microcosm of  Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC), IN  a "living, breathing, urban area," provides a unique and realistic urban training venue on a scale unmatched in existing training venues. Located in rural south central Indiana near Butlerville, and once home to Indiana's Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, MUTC is a 1,000-acre self-contained urban training environment unaffected by encroaching urban sprawl. MUTC offers a 180-acre reservoir and an urban infrastructure consisting of over 120 fully functional buildings. The buildings include a school, a hospital, dormitories, light industrial structures, single-family dwellings, a dining facility, jail/correctional facilities, and administrative office buildings. The buildings range from one to seven stories, including nine with basements. Additionally, the site includes approximately one mile of extensive underground utility tunnel systems that connect many of the buildings and a cave complex, both of which provide a GPS denied environment, more than nine miles of roads and streets and a subway terminal. Surrounding the urban site are wooded areas and open/undeveloped land often found within or adjacent to urban areas.

Specific Electronic Attack (EA) and cellular capabilities include:

  • EA Clearance - MUTC is covered under an Electronic Attack (EA) Clearance that is held by Crane NSWC. This clearance allows for ground based EA operations at specific frequencies.
  • GSM Systems - MUTC currently has an operating closed network Cellular phone system for testing and training. The system's capabilities have been extended to CAJMTC via Radio Over IP (RoIP). This system replicates up to 123 different Cellular phone towers from the same or separate Cellular providers, and can be used for a multitude of testing and training events.
