Command Sgt. Maj. Thetford becomes USSOCOM’s eighth senior enlisted advisor

MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. – U.S. Special Operations Command hosted a change of responsibility for its senior enlisted leader in a formal ceremony presided over by Army Gen. Joseph Votel, commander USSOCOM, at the Davis Conference Center, here, Oct 15.

Command Sgt. Maj. Chris Faris served three years as the senior enlisted advisor and relinquished his responsibilities to Command Sgt. Maj. Bill Thetford. Thetford’s previous assignment was the command sergeant major for Joint Special Operations Command.

The ceremony had many distinguished guests to include Tampa civic leaders and sponsors, benevolent associations, and Medal of Honor recipient, retired Army Sgt. Maj. Gary Litrell.

Faris’ military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, 7 Bronze Star Medals, one with Valor Device, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge (2d Award), Expert Infantryman Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Military Free Fall Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and 11 Overseas Service Bars.
