​Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH), headquartered at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida, is a sub-unified command of U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) responsible for planning and executing special operations throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean.  Working with partner nations, SOCSOUTH conducts these operations with in AOR -- encompassing 31 countries and 12 dependencies and areas of special sovereighnty, home to over 522 million people -- to achieve U.S. national security objectives, respond to crises, enchance warfighter readiness, and promote regional stability through a posture of peace through strength.  SOCSOUTH personnel, embodying the warrior ethos, maintain the highest levels of lethality and professionalism to ensure mission success.

SOCSOUTH comprises over 400 personnel, including military service members, civilian employees, and contractors, to conduct three core mission imperatives:

  • ​Plan and execute campain plans.
  • Command and control deployed Special Operations Forces.
  • Respond to crises.

As the focal point for SOF operations in the USSOUTHCOM AOR, SOCSOUTH utilizes SOF units designated by the Secretary of Defense. These specialized units condcut operations requiring personnel, equipment, training, and tactics beyond conventional military capabilities.
