Ukrainian and US SOF Commanders discuss the future of Special Ops in Ukraine

​STUTTGART, GERMANY – Commander of Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR), Maj. Gen. Gregory Lengyel and the staff and components of SOCEUR hosted Maj. Gen. Ihor Lunyov, commander of Ukrainian Special Operations Forces Command (SOFCOM) and members of his staff in Stuttgart, Germany on 26 April 2016.

The visit consisted of briefings and discussions at the SOCEUR Headquarters on the current state of Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF), the US and partner nation SOF contributions to the Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine mission, along with a conversation on the future structure and the development of the Ukrainian SOCOM’s institutional capacities.

The Army and Navy components of SOCEUR also provided Lunyov and his staff briefings on their structure and static displays of typical equipment issued to operators in their component at their headquarters. The visit concluded with a joint demonstration by Army and Navy SOF at a local training area.
