Fort Bragg brigadier general promoted to major general

 

FORT  BRAGG, N.C. – Admiral Bill H. McRaven, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, promoted Brig. Gen. Raymond A. Thomas III, Joint Special Operations Command’s deputy commanding general, to major general during a ceremony here Dec. 22.

 

    Maj. Gen. Thomas received his commission from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1980.  Since then, he has served in a variety of command and staff positions to include multiple tours at Fort Bragg, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and the 1st Armored Division in Germany.  His combat tours include OPERATION JUST CAUSE, OPERATION DESERT STORM, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

 

    Some of Thomas’ awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Purple Heart, Thomas has also earned the Master Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab.
