MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Members of the newly established Special Operations Forces Women in Leadership (SOFWIL), along with The Greater Tampa Bay Chapter Women in Defense, hosted their first Women’s History Month Guest Speaker Series, “Empowering Women Today,” March 17, at Shutts and Bowen Law Firm in Tampa.

SOFWIL chose the theme “Empowering Women Today” to complement this year’s national theme of “Working to Form a More Perfect Union.”

Ruby Huggins, National Security Agency/ Central Security Service representative to U.S. Special Operations Command, was a guest speaker at the speaker series.  The message she delivered was taken from a children’s nursery rhyme “The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.”

“The more we get together, the more advanced and enhanced coming generations will be, so it’s about connecting, sharing and coming together,” said Huggins.

During her brief, Huggins also shared her thoughts about SOFWIL’s mission statement.

“I love the word ‘committed’ because you are committed to providing information sources, exchanging ideas, networking opportunities and mentoring … all of that is so important and I am inspired by the mission statement of SOFWIL,” said Huggins.

The Speaker Series will continue with the next event on March 24 at the University of South Florida where the topic is “Mentor, Grow, Educate the next Generation of Women Leaders,” and March 25 at the Tampa Bay Yacht Club for “Stay Connected to the Community.”
